Incidentally, Twitter turned down an acquisition $500 million offer from Facebook a few months ago.
Twitter has logged impressive growth with the registered number of users now growin to over 6 million, a 600 per cent increase in the last one year.
It could be a big win for Google, which took over Blogger from the founders of Twitter five years ago.
The two-year-old Twitter was born out of Jack Dorsey's simple idea of wanting to know what his friends were doing.
Jack worked on this idea and saw an opportunity to build something compelling around this simple concept. When he brought the idea up to his colleagues, it was decided that a prototype should be built.
Twitter was funded initially by Obvious, a creative environment in San Francisco. The first prototype was built in two weeks in March 2006 and launched in August 2006.
The service grew popular very quickly and it soon made sense for Twitter to move outside of Obvious. Twitter Inc was thus founded in 2007.
