An eye for all the right gadgets

Tuned into a cutting edge audiovisual environment, Dr Himanshu Kumar, founder of Mini Theatres, has certainly got an eye for all the right gadgets. While he says his sleek BlackBerry is the gadget that defines him best, he still has a soft spot for his 26-year-old SLR camera.

Name one gizmo you can't wait to get your hands on.

That would be a Nikon D300. It's quite an amazing digital SLR and I would love to add it to my collection of cameras.

What is the most overpriced gadget in the market now?

Most gaming consoles are overpriced as they aren't versatile enough to be priced so high.

Marooned on a desert island with one gadget: which would it be?

A Swiss knife. Apart from the usual features, USB flash drives, digital clock, digital altimeter, LED light, laser pointer and MP3 player will help me enjoy my sudden and welcome break.

What is one of the earliest gadgets you bought and still use?

My film SLR Pentax ME-Super camera. I bought it 26 years ago and since then it has taken some amazing prize-winning pictures for me and is still going strong.

Do you prefer all-in-one gadgets or the best in individual areas?

An all-in-one gadget, but it should be the best in its class because less is more! Like my Swiss knife.

Name a gizmo you would love to gift.

A Nintendo to my 14-year-old son. To be truthful, I can't give him enough time at the moment. With a choice of over a thousand games, 2 Kib onboard access memory and various other fantastic features, it sure makes a nice gift.

Is there one gadget that's a great product but hasn't received its due in the market?

MP4 wristwatches are the most underrated gizmos despite being so reasonable and user-friendly. What else can give you such a small packaged delight?

Name a gadget you would want for a day.

Shades which play movies like the Lumus video eyeglasses, just to experience the technology. These glasses have a miniature video projector, LCD screen and a lens mirror. The LOE technology helps give a spectacular display comparable to a 60-inch or wider screen, on the twin micro-display lenses.

What gadget do you use as a stress-buster?

My audio ensemble of Denon, Marantz and Jamo. My old collection of Hindustani classical music and a good enough collection of ghazals are great stress-busters for me.

What gadget comes closest to defining you?

My BlackBerry Curve - smart, sleek, dependable, versatile and efficient.
