The world's largest furniture manufacturer, Denmark-based Tvilum Scanbirk, has tied up with Kolkata's Universal Specialities Ltd  to enter the Indian furniture market.

Furniture sales represented the second-largest revenue segment in the country's organised retail sector.

Launching the flagship store "Attitude'  in Kolkata today, USL chief executive officer Gaurav Goenka said the products would be imported from Denmark at what he said were "competitive" prices ranging between Rs 9,999 and Rs 28,000.

USL launched its first store in Gurgaon last month.

Within the next 12 months, USL will open 10 more outlets in northern and eastern India.

"USL will set up 10 more outlets in places like Chandigarh, Jaipur, Jammu, Siliguri, Guwahati and Bhubaneshwar. Another store will come up in Kolkata, at Salt Lake or near the airport," he said.

Working on a hub and spoke model, Attitude will set up central warehouses, one each at Kolkata and Delhi, to supply the stores.

USL has initiated discussions with real estate developers for pre-furnishing of apartments in major housing complexes.

"Discussions on the first contract from a Delhi-based developer for furnishing a 125-flat complex is in the final stages and similar opportunities in Kolkata are under study," Goenka said.

The cost of furnishing a standard flat could be up to Rs 200,000.
