A British court has convicted Joyti De-Laurey, a secretary at Goldman Sachs in London, after it found the Indo-British woman guilty of stealing about £4.5 million (about Rs 36 crore) from her bosses.

The 35-year-old De-Laurey, of North Cheam, Surrey, "was convicted at Southwark Crown Court on four counts of using a false instrument and 16 counts of obtaining a money transfer by deception. The total of value of her fraud was £4,303,259," reported The Telegraph.

Although De-Laurey denied taking the money without permission, "the prosecution alleged she forged her bosses' signatures on cheques and cash transfer authorities to raid their savings secretly and go on a spending sprees," said The Telegraph.

De-Laurey had argued that she was allowed to take several million pounds, which her bosses would have regarded as 'little more than pocket money.'

"The woman used the money to create a lavish lifestyle for herself, including a £750,000 villa in Cyprus and about £300,000 of Cartier jewellery," said The Telegraph.
