Fortis Healthcare Limited, part of Ranbaxy Group, has announced plans to increase the number of its hospitals from 10 to 25 in the next 3 to 4 years, with a vision to set up a world class super speciality network.

"We would like to have a network of 25 hospitals with a capacity of over 5,000 beds throughout the country in the next couple of years," Fortis Healthcare Limited Managing Director Shivinder Mohan Singh said in Ludhiana on Thursday but refused to divulge details of investments.

Fortis has tied up with medical as well as non-medical institutions to provide health care facilities to patients who are not in position to afford medical treatment.

"We have informal tie ups with Chandigarh-based PGI hospital and Rotary clubs to locate needy patients, who cannot afford to spend on medical treatment, to be treated by Fortis," he said.

Fortis, after acquiring Escorts Healthcare System recently, has 10 hospitals with a bed capacity of over 1,600. It has hospitals in Amritsar, Delhi, Raipur, Mohali, Noida and Faridabad.
