India discusses energy security with US

Energy security concerns figured prominently during talks Minister of Science and Technology Kapil Sibal had with several US senators and Congressmen in Washington.

The Minister met Senator Jeff Bingaman, Congressman Joseph Crowley, Gary Ackerman in Washington.

Sibal was in Washington in connection with the Binational Commision on Science and Technology that was agreed upon during US President George W Bush's visit to India in March.

Issues relating to bilateral Science and Technology cooperation, including the civil nuclear deal were discussed, an official release said.

The Minister also visited George Washington University Law School and addressed the faculty members and students on IPR related issues.

He also interacted with the think tank at the Council on foreign relations and addressed a large gathering of intellectuals on 'S&T for development, The Indian experience'.

During the interaction Sibal emphasised the importance of the new partnership with US and identified long-term interests of not only India and US but global concerns and how they can be addressed.

The energy security concerns of India in particular and the world in general figured prominently in his talks.

The Minister said India and US were natural partners and there is a need for strong collaborative ties between them.
