The employees of Doordarshan and All India Radio employees on Tuesday called off their proposed day-long 'tool down' strike after a meeting with Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi.

The decision was taken after representatives of National Federation of Akashvani and Doordarshan Employees (NFADE) were assured by the Minister that their demand of retention of Prasar Bharati employees and its assets with the Centre would be looked into during the next Group of Ministers (GoM) meet.

A senior Ministry official told PTI that the employees had met Dasmunsi late last evening. "They decided to call off their strike after the Minister assured them that all their grievances would be looked into during the next GoM meeting," the official said.

The AIR and DD employees had on Monday threatened to go on a 'tool down' strike demanding fulfilment of the demands.

Their talks with Prasar Bharati CEO B S Lalli late last month had failed to yield any result. NFADE chairman S Anilkumar claimed that the Minister had told them that the issues would be addressed "within two months" once the GoM is convened. "We have, therefore, decided to call off our strike as of now," he said.

The ministry official, however, said that the date for the GoM is yet to be decided.
