Kinley meets EU norms: Coke
February 17, 2003 12:56 IST

Coca-Cola India said on Monday it complies with all "relevant EU norms" while manufacturing its bottled water brand Kinley.

Coke's statement follows close on the heels of an apparent hardening of stand by the government which is planning to notify stricter norms for selling bottled water in the country after the Centre for Science and Environment released its findings on "high levels of pesticides" in several brands of bottled water earlier this month.

When contacted, vice president external Sunil Gupta told PTI, "We are revelant EU norms compliant for bottled water in India. To ensure 100 per cent safe drinking water we not only confirm to BIS norms but also to relevant EU norms in India."

Asked to specify the "relevant EU norms" the company follows in India, Gupta said, "that certificate we will give only when we are asked."

Meanwhile, Pepsico India has also claimed that its bottled water brand Aquafina also meets EU norms in India.

Late last week, the company said in a statement that it commenced tests last week for bottled water and the results indicated that Aquafina met even the European norms for residual pesticides.
