US software major Cognizant Technology Solutions will invest $ 35 million in India to expand its infrastructure and development centres.

The investment would be primarily for its techno-complexes that are coming up in Kolkata, Chennai and Pune, Cognizant chief operating officer Laxmi Narayan said in Mumbai on Thursday.

A part of the investment would be made in to the company's network and connectivity infrastructure, he told reporters on the sidelines of NASSCOM 2003.

The company's Pune and Kolkata facility have been completed and is ready for operations while its Chennai facility, being built in two phases, would be completed by April and September 2003 respectively, he added.

Cognizant is planning to set up a total of 6.27 square feet of infrastructure, which would be able to accommodate over 5,000 people, Narayan said.

The company is also planning to increase its staff strength from the present 6,150 people to 8,000 people by the end of 2003, he added.

The revenues of the Nasdaq-listed company for the fourth quarter increased 54 per cent to $67 million from $43.5 million posted during the same period of last year, he added.

Narayan said revenues posted a sequential increase of nine per cent from the previous quarter while the revenues for the full year were $229 million. The company is expecting to generate revenue of at least $71 million during the first quarter of 2003, Narayanan said.

"We continue to benefit from the broad market acceptance of the offshore delivery model which will fuel our growth in the years to come", he added.
