BIS raids 42 cos over fake ISI mark

In a swoop against manufacturers of fake ISI-marked goods, the Bureau of Indian Standards conducted 42 raids nationwide, seizing large number of sub-standard household products.

The raids were conducted simultaneously in 14 states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Orissa, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnatka and Andhra Pradesh, an official spokesperson said in New Delhi.

He said during the raids in 42 places on July 24, electric, cables, switches and sockets, cables, gas stoves, plywood, wooden flush doors, packing drinking water and pesticides with fake ISI mark were seized.

In Delhi, offenders included Hilton International manufacturing 'Hilton' electric tandoor; Saver Electricals India making electric cables, and switches and sockets under 'Benson' and 'BLG' brands; Aastha Cable Company making 'Geep', 'Ajay' and 'Signature' electric cables and Bajaj Agencies (Sadar Bazar), which used fake ISI mark for LPG gas stoves made under 'Lakshmi, Surya Point, BPLINE, Videocon, BPL, Samsung and LGSHINE' brands.

In Lucknow, premises of Ramji Plywood dealing with 'Cherry' wooden flush door shutters, in Yamunanagar Quality Plywood industries manufacturing plywood and boards as 'National, Ganesha and Parkar' brands and Pukhraj Plywood manufacturing the product by the same name were raided.

Action is being initiated against all the offenders under provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 under, which the offence is punishable by imprisonment up to one year and/or fine of up to Rs 50,000, he added.
