American cult bike maker Harley Davidson, which last week criticised the 'daunting trade barriers' imposed by India, said on Tuesday it was still keen on entering the country but wanted some tax concessions.

"We remain very much interested in entering India and have not scrapped India plans," Harley Davidson Motor Co  Vice-President -- Government Affairs Tim Hoelter told reporters in New Delhi.

However, India's 60 per cent rate of custom duty on heavyweight motorcycles coupled with 30 per cent taxes would double the price of its product in the domestic market, he

said.

"We are looking for some concessions from the government ...We want to enter India as it is a key market but we don't know when will it be," he said.

He said the company would continue to work toward having a presence in India and welcomed the government's decision to harmonise technical standards for high-powered bikes with global norms.

Earlier, in an interview with PTI, Hoelter had accused the government of maintaining 'daunting trade barrier to dissuade firms like Harley-Davidson from entering the market'. (PTI)
