This remarkable feat coincides with the 60th birth anniversary of the 4th King of Bhutan who is considered as the ‘champion of environment’ worldwide. The plantation took place coinciding with the coronation of the 4th King of Bhutan and the social forestry day.
The event was organised by people’s initiative in celebrating the sixtieth anniversary (PICSA) under the project, Bhutan Eco-Green Initiative Network.
Meanwhile, currently, more than 75 per cent of the land in Bhutan is under forest cover and the constitution of Bhutan states that a minimum of 60 per cent of the land shall be covered under forest for all times to come.
Conservation of environment is one of the pillars of gross national happiness (GNH), a unique developmental philosophy initiated by the Fourth King of Bhutan which makes Bhutan an example to cite across the globe.
