The United States-based software company Bentley Systems is eyeing major contracts in railways, roads, telecom, electricity, gas and water following government decision to invest over Rs 60,000 crore (Rs 600 million) in the infrastructure sector.

The company is talking to Indian Railways, National Highways Authority of India, MTNL, BSES, ONGC, Cairns and various other government departments for geospatial software systems, Bentley Systems India managing director Sandeep Srivastava said on Monday.

The IT company is also assisting the defence sector in updating maps on strategic positions and Survey of India in updating and conserving maps in digital form, he said.

"The infrastructure sector is poised for an accelerated growth in the coming years. Many of the infrastructure projects are already using our software. We expect phenomenal growth in this segment in the years to come," he said.

Citing CMIE research data, Srivastava said infrastructure would require Rs 85,000 crore (Rs 850 billion) to maintain the 5.5 per cent GDP growth. An additional Rs 2,50,000 crore (Rs 2,500 billion) has to be made for accelerating growth to 8.0 per cent.
