Tata Motors' commercial vehicle plant in Jamshedpur will be closed for six days, from January 12 to January 17, for the fifth time since November last year, a company official said on Friday.
Earlier, the plant was closed during November 6-8, November 25-29, December 8-13 and December 28-31, due to slump in demand.
Continuous unavailability of finance, coupled with high interest rates across the industry, was forcing customers to postpone purchases, company spokesman P J Singh said.
"This calls for appropriate action from Tata Motors from time to time to match the production with demand and avoid unnecessary build-up of inventories in the company or with the dealers," Singh said.
This closure is in line with the objective, as in the case of previous closures, he said.
