10 best selling cars in April, Maruti Alto tops

May 12, 2016 10:15 IST

The first month of the new fiscal year saw a slight change in sales trends as market leader Maruti Suzuki saw a decline in sales of its popular models, writes Indian automobile website MotorBeam.com.

Maruti Alto

The numero uno position in the sales chart is still maintained by the versatile Alto hatchback with 16,538 units sold, due to the substantial promotional and dealership might of Maruti. But the magic number is the 25 percent fall in sales since last month which should lead to some very late night team brainstorming sessions at Maruti headquarters.

Maruti Swift

The second position in the table is the Maruti Swift with a sales mark of 15,661 cars leaving the showroom. The car is up by eight percent from last month but is certainly starting to show age in front of fresh competition.

Maruti Wagon R

The most practical car arguably on the Indian roads has also consolidated its position since last month and grabbed the number three spot this time. The boxy hatchback sold 15,343 units in April and was up by a meagre 5 percent.

Maruti Swift DZire

Another Maruti champion batsman to get out at a low score is the DZire sedan which saw a 26 percent dent in its sales numbers since last month. The car sold just 13,256 units last month, which indicates the waning popularity of compact sedans as people flock towards premium hatches and compact SUVs.

Hyundai Grand i10

The best selling car from the Hyundai stable was the stylish Grand i10 hatchback, which sold 9840 cars and saw a relatively flat three percent rise in the sales number.

Renault Kwid

The Renault Kwid is the newbie batsman which has hit a half century in just ten balls. The car continued its superb performance and made 9795 customers happy, which is a big achievement for the French with their limited network.

Maruti Baleno

Bringing some good old traditional high volume numbers to the Maruti stable is the Baleno hatchback, which trumped its Korean rival by a small margin. The car saw a quick fifty three percent rise in the sales graph.

Hyundai Elite i20

The gorgeous looking premium supermini from Hyundai was the undefeated king of its segment, until last April when the Baleno finally oversold the car. The Elite i20 grew by just eight percent and sold 9400 units.

Maruti Celerio

Another small Maruti which makes appearance in the list and has been consistently bringing in good volumes for the company. The entry level hatchback though lost some sales and retracted by four percent since last month, selling 8548 copies only. Is it the Tiago effect?

Honda City

The only traditional mid-size sedan on the list is the versatile Honda City which has managed to hold-off the rising heat from the Maruti Ciaz and grabbed the tenth spot on the list. The car sold 5793 units last month.
