Ford India has slashed the price of the top-end variant of its entry level sedan Classic by up to Rs 70,000 by introducing new petrol and diesel options.

"The new variant 'Titanium' of the Ford Classic sedan will replace the previously existing top-end option 'SXi'.

"The new variant comes with nine new features," Ford India vice president (marketing) Anurag Mehrotra said.

The price of the new petrol variant starts at Rs 686,000, while the diesel one begins with Rs 782,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Previously, the Classic SXi was priced at Rs 756,000 for petrol variant, while it was Rs 850,000 in the case of a diesel option.

Mehrotra said the company has been able to reduce the prices due to higher localisation level of about 85

per cent and also 'commonality' of parts such as the bluetooth with its small car Figo.

The petrol variant of the Classic is powered by a 1.6 litre engine and a 1.4 litre engine drives the diesel variant.

"While the diesel variant of the Titanium returns 32.38 km per litre under Automotive Research Association of India test conditions, the petrol variant is rated for a fuel efficiency of 21.27 km per litre," the company claimed.

Commenting on the launch, Ford India president and managing director Michael Boneham said: "We have been listening to our customers to offer a value proposition with smart technologies and best-in-class features with the introduction of the Titanium variant in our Ford Classic range."
