The facility was launched by Dr G Venkataswamy, chairman of the Aurolab trust and Aravind Eye care system in Madurai.
Dr P Balakrishnan, managing director of Aurolab, said the lab, which had manufacturing facilities for intra ocular lenses, suture needles, pharmaceuticals, spectacles lenses and hearing aids, would be able to ship the requirement for customers once quotations for the specific items were placed on-line.
The payments could be made by demand drafts or money transfer through banks or by credit cards, using the on-line facility.
"An order tracking system would enable customers to check the status of their order at any time from when the order was placed," he said. The Aravind eye care centre was the first to produce suture needles with German technology.
The aurolab website facilitates easy access for product information, immediate communication of prices, receipt and process of orders and elimination of manual entries. The payment cycle is also narrowed down.
