Obama, McCain eye Buffett as next treasury chief

October 08, 2008 15:47 IST

Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama and his Republican rival John McCain may differ over a lot of issues but they agree on one issue -- both are of the view that one of the world's richest men and investment guru Warren Buffett would make a good treasury secretary.

Both believe only Buffett can help pull the US economy out of a tailspin.

Though Buffett, chief of the Berkshire Hathaway holding company, supported Obama in the race for the White House, McCain was all praise for Buffett's contribution

to the global economic crisis.

"A supporter of Senator Obama's is Warren Buffett. He has already weighed in and helped stabilise some of the difficulties in the markets and with companies and corporations, institutions today," McCain is quoted to have said.

Asked who would voters like to see running the treasury department under the next administration and working to fix the economy, Obama said, "Warren would be a pretty good choice -- Warren Buffett, and I'm pleased to have his support". "But there are other folks out there."
