Make farmers partners of SEZ: Kalam

Former President APJ Abdul Kalam has suggested that farmers should be made equity partners in special economic zones and trained for value added jobs in its allied services.

The commissioning of 51 SEZs in Gujarat will further enhance the industrial activity and generate more employment opportunities, he said during an industrial awards function organised by the Federation of Gujarat Industries in Vadodara on Monday night.

He appreciated the target of 14 per cent industrial growth rate set by Gujarat during the 11th five year plan which will substantially increase the per capita income of the state from Rs 26 to Rs 543.

He

appreciated the focus on the infrastructure development which is essential for the growth of industry in the state.

Kalam said the industrial production of Gujarat should be tripled within the next five years.

He asked the FGI to take lead in increasing global business knowledge and sharing a platform by connecting all the micro, small and medium industries located in Gujarat and in the country.
