Announcing these measures in the Railway budget on Tuesday, Lalu Prasad said his Ministry has decided to install online coach indication display boards in over night mail and express trains by March 2009.
"On board passengers are generally unaware of the timely running and likely arrival of approaching stations whereas this information is available on screen on international flights. This is a particular source of inconvenience to passengers de-boarding the train at night time," he said.
He said the information boards will continuously display the remaining distance and likely time of arrival of the next approaching station.
High picture quality LED boards displaying online information about train arrivals and departures and platform berthing will be installed at railway stations, parking lots and entrance gates.
These LED boards will be installed at 100 A & B category stations by March next year, Prasad said. Online reservation availability information boards will be installed at reservation offices at all A & B category stations dispensing the need for passengers to seek this information at counters.
These high quality LED information boards and touch screens will be provided in sufficient number in reservation offices of A & B category stations.
