German auto component maker Bosch said on Thursday it will temporarily shut down its one Indian manufacturing facility at Bangalore for eight days to prevent inventory pile-up on account of falling demand.

"In order to adjust production to meet the demand for products and to avoid unnecessary inventory build-up, the company is closing down temporarily production operations at its Bangalore plant," Bosch Ltd said in a communique to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The company would close the plant from December 25, 2008, to January 1 next year, it added.

Earlier this week, Bosch had said it would temporarily stop producing auto parts in India as part of its global working hours rationalisation programme due to the slowdown in international markets.

The company is also closing down temporarily the manufacturing activities of starters and generators at its Naganathapura plant from December 19-31.

It is considering to have more temporary halting of productions of various auto parts in its four plants -- Bangalore, Naganathapura, Nashik and Jaipur -- during January next year, according to the company insiders.

Also, earlier this month, Bosch announced to stop producing some select auto components for second time at its Nashik plant, which manufactures nozzle holders, DN nozzles and common rail injector assembly on various dates in the current month, starting December 6.

Last month, Bosch had stopped production of starters and generators at its Naganathapura plant for four days, while productions of few parts at Nashik facility was stopped for two days.

The company had also decided not to absorb about 300 trainees, who are undergoing vocational training at its different plants in the country.
