Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of software major Infosys Technologies Limited, Nandan M Nilekani on Wednesday pushed for electronic submission of building plans, and doing away with the present practice of hard copies.
Speaking after inaugurating a three-day annual convention and conference of Indian Institute of Architects in Bangalore, Nilekani said the new method would help reduce corruption, and enable drawing up of digital database of cities.
He stressed the need for energy-efficient and sustainable buildings, and 'climate adaptation' in design.
"Every new campus of Infosys has highest level of sustainability", Nilekani said, adding, the company has also been able to bring down energy consumption by 40 per cent.
He expressed the view that urbanisation is a critical part of life and it (urbanisation) promotes creativity and innovation while 'dissolving past and caste'.
Nilekani called for making a serious effort to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.
Around 900 delegates are attending the three-day event, which would be addressed by national and international speakers covering various themes. An exhibition of building products was also inaugurated at the venue.
