Auto major Tata Motors on Wednesday said it will shut down its commercial vehicle plant in Pune for three days -- the second time within 15 days -- to prevent inventory build up on account of falling sales.

"Tata Motors' commercial vehicles plant in Pune will take a block closure from December 5 to December 7, 2008," a Tata Motors spokesman told PTI.

"This will call for appropriate action from Tata Motors, from time to time, to match production with demand and avoid unnecessary build-up of inventory in the company or with the company's dealers," he added.

He further said unavailability of finance, coupled with high interest rates, was forcing customers to postpone purchases across the industry.

Earlier, the company had shut the plant for six days from November 21 to 26.

However, the spokesperson said that the employees would be paid during "such limited period" closures.

When asked if the company was evaluating the possibility of closing down other facilities in the country, he said as of now, there were no plans for such block closures for any other commercial vehicle plant.

On passenger car productions, he said: "Tata Motors' passenger car facilities are working in their normal manner. There are no plans whatsoever for any block closure or any such step."

Last month, the company had shut down its Jamshedpur unit -- the mother plant for its heavy commercial vehicles-- twice, first from November 6 to 8 and then for five days from November 25 to 29.
