Industrialist Sajjan Jindal, setting up an integrated steel plant at Salboni in West Midnapore district, said on Tuesday the events at Singur were unfortunate, but he was not perturbed.

''It is unfortunate and not good for West Bengal. I hope a solution to the problem will emerge soon. I am not perturbed,'' Jindal told reporters.

About Tata group Chairman Ratan Tata's threat to pull out the small car project from Singur due to violence and disruptions, Jindal said, ''He must be frustrated for which he might have made the comment.

''He made investments and it should be very  painful for him to see the developments in Singur,'' Jindal said.

''Our project at Salboni is going ahead and its foundation stone will be laid in Novemb
er,'' Jindal, vice-chairman
and managing director of JSW steel and Assocham president, said.

The steel plant would be operational by 2011-12. The initial capacity is three million tonne involving an investment of Rs 10,000 crore (Rs 100 billion).

''We have already acquired 4,800 acre for the plant,'' he added.

Replying to a question, he said industry should not come up on fertile land, but farmers would have to make some sacrifices.

JSW steel is setting up a steel plant at Salboni, for which it has floated a subsidiary JSW Bengal Steel Limited.
