REL buys back shares for Rs 230 cr

Anil Ambani group firm Reliance Energy on Tuesday said it has bought shares worth over Rs 230 crore, representing nearly 30 per cent of the buyback offer.

The company has completed buyback of 18.61 lakh equity shares worth Rs 230.34 crore (Rs 2.3 billion) till Tuesday, the company said.

Reliance Energy bought back 81,680 equity shares on Tuesday, it added. The last date for the buyback would be March 4, 2009, a year from the date of the Board's approval for the offer.

The company's board of directors had approved the buyback of shares worth about Rs 800 crore (Rs 8 billion)  in the first phase.

Shares of Reliance Energy closed at Rs 1,150.45, down 1.07 per cent, on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
