General Motor India, a unit of GM Corp, is evaluating possibilities to set up a powertrain (engine manufacturing) unit in the country to cater to domestic and export market.
"We have not finalised the timing of the plant but are definately planning to bring powertrain to India. The details of the plant would be announced in the near future," GM India's newly appointed President and Managing Director Karl
Slym told reporters.
He also said the company would launch a new sports utility vehicle Captiva in India during the upcoming Auto Expo in January next year.
"The Captiva would be brought in India as a completely built unit. We will study the market with the product first before taking a call on whether to assemble the car here or not," Slym
said.
