Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has drawn the attention of chief ministers towards the Centre's pet project of food security special programmes of wheat, rice and pulses.
In a letter to chief ministers, the PM said Centre will foot the bill on the proposed food security special programmes.
The chief ministers have been told that an action plan should be prepared in a month's time.
Reminding the chief ministers of the urgency in implementing the conclusions of the National Development Council (DC), which met on May 29, the prime minister advised
the states to get into action from the current kharif season.
Outlining steps for states to achieve the 4 per cent annual growth in agriculture, Singh requested chief ministers to set up a high-level committee which can address the operational issues.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has initiated steps to chalk out a plan as indicated by NDC. The government hopes to get substantial funds under the new initiative where the Centre will introduce a new financing mechanism to support the states for additional expenditure on agriculture.
