The Bharatiya Janata Party is opposed to setting up of special economic zones on agricultural land and only barren land should be used for the purpose, party leader Sushma Swaraj said in Kolkata on Wednesday.
"It is a declared policy of the BJP that SEZs should not be set up on productive land and only barren land should be used," she said.
The BJP leader arrived in Kolkata leading a five-member team of party MPs on way to Nandigram
where villagers staged violent protests against the move by the Left Front government to set up a SEZ by Indonesia's Salim Group.
