The Railway Budget for 2007-08 said on Monday the number of rail accidents had decreased despite substantial increase in volume of traffic.
Presenting the Budget, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav said production of improved crashworthy coaches would be increased and announced that the testing of Anti-Collision Device was in last stages.
Majority of Special Railway Safety Fund works to be completed by next month while the balance to be completed by March next year, he said.
General managers have been empowered to sanction subways costing upto Rs 50 lakhs (Rs 5 million) on unmanned level crossings for reducing accidents.
