Now get entertained aboard a Jet flight

Jet Airways announced on Monday introduction of a new on-demand in-flight audio and video entertainment system, Sky Screen, for its Club Premier and Economy class passengers.

The facility will be offered to passengers on board the new Boeing 737-800 acquired by the airline in August.

Presently, the facility will be offered on three domestic sectors Mumbai-Delhi, Mumbai-Bangalore and Mumbai-Hyderabad, Jet Airways CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer told reporters in Mumbai on Monday.

"We have ordered for 10 Boeing 737-800s and the in-flight entertainment will be in all the aircraft," he said, adding the company will soon undertake an upgradation exercise to offer similar facility in the remaining fleet.

Prock-Shaeur said the facility will be offered at no additional cost.

The Panasonic eFX system has nine inch video monitors mounted with touch screens in Club Premier and seven inch touch screens fitted in the back of the seats in Economy class The LCD screens are the biggest offered by any airline in India and are equipped for over 100 hours of audio/video programmes from Hollywood and Bollywood from various genre lik drama, comedy, movies, showbiz, lifestyle and sports.

It will offer a jukebox facility with over 70 audio CDs with an option of a personalised playlist of 50 tracks. Apart from in-flight entertainment, the Boeing 737-800 is also equipped with 110 VAC power outlets throughout the cabin.

Jet hangar in Mumbai airport: Jet has become the first private airline to establish its hangar in Mumbai to carry out major and line maintenance checks for its fleet of Boeing and ATR aircraft.

This hangar can accommodate two Boeing aircraft 737-series plus one ATR aircraft at any given time, Jet Airways CEO said.

"This significant improvement in the maintenance infrastructure of Jet Airways will form a solid basis for further expansion of the airline. It has been set up at a cost of $15 million," he said.

The airline employs over 2,000 people in its engineering department, of which more than 300 will be working at the hangar.

The hangar is built over a plot area of 13,140 sq mts along with a basement sprawling across 3,500 sq mts. The 72 mt span roof of the hangar is reinforced by structural steel trusses on RCC columns.

It is equipped with workshops for taking care of independent modules like avionics, hydraulic, composite panel repair, furnishings and seat repair, sheet metal, cleaning, painting, wheels and brakes shop and engine storage area.

The airline is currently having its own facility in New Delhi and a leased facility in Bangalore.

The Mumbai hangar facility will be a hub for operations and it is equipped for an overall aircraft maintenance, he said.
