About 120 contractual labourers, a majority of them Indians, have stopped work in a mark of protest for unpaid salaries. A company official assured them that they would be paid soon.

The labourers, who work for Swaidan and Al Nile Contracting Company in Sharjah took to the streets on Thursday, saying they have not been paid for four months.

"The only solution for them was to stop work because they need the money to send to their families back home," a worker was quoted as saying by the Gulf News.

Unlike
two incidents in the past month when workers resorted to violence, this time the workers left after an assurance from police that they would be paid.
