Proclaiming India as a major success story, Japanese small car major Suzuki Motor Corp said the record sales achieved its premium hatchback model, Swift in the country 'easily topped' targets in its first year of launch.
The company said the sales of 61,200 units achieved by Swift in its initial year of launch in India was a record that "easily topped the target of 50,000 units".
Priced between Rs 399,000 and Rs 506000 (ex-showroom Delhi) the model received good response from the customers in India.
In the first week of its launch in India, Swift had clocked bookings of more than 15,000 units and Maruti Udyog Ltd, SMC's subsidiary, had to increase production subsequently.
Swift, which is Suzuki's global strategic vehicle, is currently produced and sold in four countries -- Japan, Hungary, India and China.
SMC said it planned to roll out 3,00,000 units of Swift globally in the four countries this year.
Currently, the model is available in 74 countries. The car was designed by Indian engineers along with their Japanese counterparts.
