GDP to grow at 8 %: FM

Finance Minister P Chidambaram presented the 2006-07 Union Budget in Parliament on Tuesday.

Presenting the Budget the FM described 2005 as: The best of times and worst of times.

He projected the GDP to grow at 8 per cent and manufacturing at 9 per cent. The savings are up 21.9 per cent of GDP.

Agriculture growth, he said was up 2.1 per cent. Prospects for 2006 are just as good said the FM. This year has seen many natural disasters and the government has come good with rehabilitation, he added.
