Sensex up 148 points at 13,845

The markets ended near the highest points of the day on the back of heavy buying seen in scrips from auto, banking, capital goods and pharma sector.

The Sensex closed at 13,844.78 up 148.47 points or 1.08%. The Nifty gained 43 points to close at 3997.6. The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,718.74 up 72 points or 1.08%.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,775.42 up 53.82 points or 0.94%.

The BSE Bankex was up 1.53% at 7,289.88.  Canara Bank, UTI Bank, Bank of India, SBI, Bank of Baroda moved upwards.

The BSE IT Index gained 0.7% at 5,142.41. I-Flex Solution, Mphasis BFL, Satyam, Hexaware Tech advanced.

The BSE Metal Index was up 0.4% to close at 8,913.33. Jindal Saw,  Welspun Guj, Sterlite Ind, Mah Seamless ended higher.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.8% at 9,107.96. Alstom Projects, Bharat Elec, ABB, Lakshmi Machine, Siemens
closed higher.

The BSE Health Care Index closed was up 1.33% at 3,769.95. Ipca Labs, Ranbaxy Labs, Aurobindo Pharm, Divis Labs, Sun Pharma  closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index gained 1.6% at 2,051.03. Colgate,  ITC, Nestle, HLL, Britannia closed in green.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,472.77 up 2.8%. Punj Tractors, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Hero Honda, Escorts moved higher.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 0.9% to close at 6,130.28. MRPL, HPCL, Reliance, Petronet LNG ended in green.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8182.46 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 25759.85 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4455.03 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 38397.34 crore.
