Inflation fell for the second consecutive week to 3.24 per cent for the week ended April 8 from 3.51 per cent in the previous week mainly due to cheaper food items including vegetables and wheat.

The wholesale price rise, which averaged a little more than 4 per cent in the previous fiscal, had come down to 3.51 per cent on April 1 (year-on-year), the beginning of the fiscal year 2006-07.

Inflation further declined to 3.24 per cent despite marginal increase in prices of manufactured items, but inflation was higher at 5.86 per cent during the same period last year, according to government data released on Friday.
