Wipro's 2005-06 net profit up at Rs 2,020.5 crore

Indian infotech major Wipro Ltd posted a profit of Rs 2,020.5 crore (Rs 20.205 billion) for the year ended March 31, 2006 as compared to Rs 1,494.8 crore (Rs 14.948) billion for the year ended March 31, 2005.

The company's total income increased from Rs 7,326.7 crore (Rs 73.267 billion) in FY 04-05 to Rs 10,379.6 crore (Rs 103.796 billion) for the fiscal year 2005-06.

Wipro posted a profit for the period of Rs 657.5 crore (Rs 6,575 million) for the quarter ended March 31, 2006 (Q4 FY 05-06) as compared to Rs 42.14 crore (Rs 4,214 million) for the quarter ended March 31, 2005 (Q4 FY 04-05).

According to Wipro's announcement to the Bombay Stock Exchange, its consolidated results are as follows:

The group has posted a profit for the period of Rs 6179 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2006 (Q4 FY 05-06) as compared to Rs 4330 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2005 (Q4 FY 04-05). Total Revenues has increased from Rs 23121 million in Q4 FY 04-05 to Rs 31132 million for Q4 FY 05-06.

The broup has posted a profit for the period of Rs 20674 million for the year ended March 31, 2006 (FY 05-06) as compared to Rs 16285 million for the year ended March 31, 2005 (FY 04-05). Total Revenues has increased from Rs 81698 million in FY 04-05 to Rs 106258 million for FY 05-06.

The Board of Directors has proposed a final dividend of Rs 5 per share.

The board of directors has inducted Bill Owens as an additional director of the company with effect from July 01, 2006.

The register of members & share transfer books of the company will remain closed from July 01, 2006 to July 18, 2006 (both days inclusive) for the purpose of payment of dividend and annual general meeting of the company scheduled to be held on July 18, 2006.
