"Investment on hand in the telecom sector amounted to Rs 90,227 crore as on July end spread across 143 projects. Almost 80 per cent of this investment is in 47 projects currently under implementation," CMIE said in its monthly review.
While the Tatas have Rs 21,780 crore (Rs 217.80 billion) worth of investments on hand including VSNL, Bharti group has Rs 10,979 crore (Rs 109.79 billion) worth projects lined up in areas like cellular, wireline, Internet gateway, VSAT services, NLD network and upgradation.
Hutchison has four cellular projects worth Rs 2170 crore (Rs 21. 70 billion) on hand while that of Idea Cellular is Rs 824 crore (Rs 8.24 billion).
While Airtel has three projects worth Rs 650 crore (Rs 6.5 billion) on hand, BPL has Rs 1225 crore (Rs 12.25 billion) worth of projects lined up, CMIE said. BSNL is pumping Rs 3407 crore, it said.
The four listed telecom companies -- Bharti, Tata Teleservice (M), VSNL and MTNL managed a double-digit aggregate margin at the net level for the seond consecutive quarter.
While MTNL was unable to expand both revenues and profits, TTSL(M) continued to post losses at the net level.
On the bourses, these four listed telecom companies managed to yield returns of 5.7 per cent in August but were unable to even keep up with broad market.
It was because of Bharti's double digit returns that aggregate returns remained positive. All other three scrips slipped during the month, it said.
