IBM expects to accelerate its momentum in India with innovative products and aggressive channel programmes targeted specially for the small and medium business segment.

Shailesh Agarwal, country manager-TotalStorage Solutions, IBM India said, the company would aggressively target the financial services, telecom, government and SMB segments.

According to estimates, 63 per cent of the Indian server market was accounted for by the low-end servers. The total storage market accounts for five per cent of the total information technology opportunity in India.

IBM India ranked first in the overall server market, in revenue terms in the second quarter 2005, according to IDC's Asia Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker, Q2 2005.

IBM gained 8.3 points revenue market share in the overall server market in Q2 2005 compared with Q2 2004. IBM's server revenues in India grew at more than twice the rate at which the overall server market expanded in Q2 2005 compared to the earlier period.

Agarwal said, in the eastern region, IBM would be focusing on five cities apart from Kolkata like Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur, Guwahati, Siliguri and Durgapur.
