Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is planning to shift a part of its research and development to India.

"We could set up a research and development facility in India," a senior company official said on Friday.

The official said that the company was carrying out an assessment internally to determine if it was feasible to shift a part of research and development work to India.

"A lot will depend on the outcome of the assessment," he said.

At present all the company's research work is done out in Sweden though the products are tailored for the different markets in close cooperation with the company's teams in these markets.

Earlier, speaking to newspersons, general manager of Sony Ericsson's India operations, Sudhin Mathur refused to comment on whether the company was planning to set up a manufacturing facility in India.

"At present our manufacturing facility in China is able meet the Indian demand," he said, adding the company's marketshare in India was growing.

The company is planning to unveil latest products across the entire range at the second Mobile Expo that would be held in Pragti Maidan, New Delhi, from October 21 to October 24.

He said the new products will exhibit convergence of technologies in both entry level and the high-end segment.
