Tenth plan: Five crore new jobs

The government is targeting the creation of around five crore employment opportunities during the Tenth Plan, Labour Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Of these, around three crore (30 million) would be created through the normal growth process and the rest through special employment generation programmes, he said in a written reply.

As per available estimates, open unemployment in the country on usual basis was of the order of 90 lakh, of which around 60 per cent were educated.
