Wipro, the country's third largest software exporter, is "seriously" pursuing an acquisition while planning to set up a BPO and software services centre in Eastern Europe, its Chairman Azim Premji said on Friday.

"Wipro is seriously pursuing and working hard at the proposed acquisition," Premji said at a news conference to announce the company's quarterly results, but added that it would not be a large one.

"It would be a small acquisition but an intelligent one," he said, but declined to elaborate.

The Bangalore-headquartered company also plans to set up a composite BPO and software service centre in Eastern Europe to service clients in that continent, particularly in Germany and France, Premji said.

He pointed out that New York Stock Exchange-listed Wipro already had two centres in China -- one in Shanghai and another in Beijing -- but they would not be used for servicing of global customers.
