US aircraft maker Boeing Corp on Wednesday signed an agreement to sell ten 737-800 passenger jets, with an option to sell 10 more, to SpiceJet low-cost carrier in a deal worth $1.26 billion at list prices.

Boeing will begin the delivery of the 189-seater aircraft to SpiceJet, formerly Modiluft, from next year, officials of both the companies told reporters in Bangalore.

SpiceJet placed a firm order for ten airplanes, valued at $630 million at list prices, and has options for ten more. First delivery is scheduled for 2006.

"We have been in India for a very long time. We understand the market and care for our partners," Boeing vice-president Dinesh Keskar said. SpiceJet will begin its services from May this year with three second-hand leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
