Show cause notices to The Hindu, ITC

Show cause notices have been issued to the publishers of The Hindu, 'Star Dust', 'Overdrive' and cigarette manufacturers -- ITC, Gold Flake and Phillip Morris - for violation of the Tobacco Products Act, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry E V K S Elangovan said the notices had been issued to these publishers and manufacturers with brand names like Red & White (Godfrey Philips), Gold Flake (ITC) and Malboro (Phillip Morris) for violation of Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution Act, 2003.

State
governments have also been asked to take action against such magazines or publication published from their states.
