Another BPO boss set to quit

Prakash Gurbaxani, the high profile chief executive officer of TransWorks, a leading call centre and BPO firm based in Bangalore, is believed to be on his way out. Sources close to the development said he has expressed his intention to resign and the board is deliberating on this.

The reasons for the move were not immediately known, while sources close to the development said the resignation was due to differences with the management. However, this could not be ascertained.

Gurbaxani neither confirmed nor denied the development to Business Standard. "I can't say anything right now. Call me tomorrow, I will be able to comment then," he said.

TransWorks' board, sources said, would discuss his resignation soone company has a number of customers in financial services, computing, ISPs and telecom verticals. It also has a 350-seat call centre in Mumbai and a marketing office in Sunnyvale, California.

Gurbaxani, hailed as the front runner of India's call centre industry, was also the founder and former CEO of Bangalore-headquartered 24/7 Customer.com. He had scaled up the operations of the company to a 400-seat strong entity, before quitting it in early 2002 to join TransWorks as CEO.

Indian IT and ITeS companies have been witnessing a spate of resignations of top executives during the past couple of months. The high profile top guns to quit include Wipro Spectramind CEO Raman Roy, Wipro Vice Chairman Vivek Paul, ICICI OneSource Chief Operating Officer Raju Bhatnagar and MphasiS-BFL Chief Financial Officer Ravi Ramu, among others.
