A major breakdown at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd's mobile switching unit, due to a power surge, on Monday disrupted nearly 300,000 BSNL Cellone mobile connections in Chennai, causing anxiety among the subscribers.

Regretting the inconvenience caused to subscribers, BSNL said in a statement that all efforts were being taken to restore the service.

'However, owing to the traffic congestion due to a large number of anxious customers trying to make call at the same time, it may take some more time to get the system stabilised,' the statement added.
