The South Australian government wants to attract Indian information technology workers to the state to help plug the skills shortage.

The government hopes a trade mission led by Premier Mike Rann to New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai next month will prompt interest among young Indian technology graduates and help to plug the skills gap.

Australia has thousands of jobs for you

Deputy Premier Kevin Foley said the state was in "desperate need" of key technology skills, including softwar end systems integration.

India has a plentiful supply of workers with background in skills such as software and systems integration, which South Australia needed, Foley was quoted as saying.

The state also wants to lure more India IT students to study in Adelaide.
