Infosys is all set to announce plans to set up a huge software development campus over an area not less than 100 acres at a proposed software SEZ in Hyderabad. This can be another landmark in Andhra Pradesh's information technology sector.

NR Narayana Murthy, chief mentor and founder of the company, will be in Hyderabad on Thursday to meet Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and apprise him of Infosys' plans for the state. He was expected to formally seek land for setting up the IT campus, sources said.

According to sources close to the development, apart from allocating land for the software development facility, the state government may also suggest to Narayana Murthy to be the anchor client or the co-developer of the proposed software SEZ.

The kind of investments the company is proposing to bring into Hyderabad, or the size of investments required for developing the SEZ, is not

yet known.

Besides, how much land will be earmarked for the SEZ, which will be the first of its kind in the state, and also its location, are still to be announced by the government.

The new initiatives by the state government include the development of a 2,500-acre SEZ at a hardware park which will house both hardware and software companies besides a product-specific software SEZ at a location yet to be identified.

Infosys has already established its base in Hyderabad with a campus near the Indian School of Business in Madhapur. The expansion plans of Infosys are expected to reinforce the company's presence in Hyderabad's information technology space as a major player in the software development sector.

The government has already offered a huge chunk of land to Wipro at Vattinagulapally near Hyderabad for setting up its campus. Wipro alone is expected to create 30,000 jobs at its proposed campus.
