TechBooks, provider of business process outsourcing services to the publishing industry after reporting a revenue of $50 million, is now bracing for aggressive expansion, both organically and inorganically.

"This year we plan to add 1,000 people and are looking at acquisitions in both India and outside to increase our range of services and addressable segments," Ranjit Singh, president and chief executive officer of TechBooks said.

The company, which started in 1988, currently has 2300 employees ranging from proof readers, copy editors and programmers.

It works on books, journals and product manuals. The company plans to get into content development and helping firms with regulatory filings.

The company recently inaugurated a 100,000 sq ft facility that will consolidate all three centres run by the company in Delhi.

The facility cost the company upwards of $5 million and can accommodate 1300 to 1400 people. Singh said the massive expansion has been necessitated because of demand from customers.

He said worldwide market for publishing outsourcing is $1.5 billion, of which just $150 million is done in India. "The size of the market will go up to $4-5 billion in 5-6 years and if we apply technology we will have good business model," Singh added.

TechBooks developed 10 million pages in 2004 and is targeting 12.5 million pages this year.
