If you thought working in business process outsourcing or call centre companies was only for the graduates from little known colleges with poor placement records, here's something that will make you do a double take.
vCustomer, a United States-based provider of offshore business process outsourcing services, call centres and technical support services, has hired 25 graduates from elite business schools across India.
Beginning this month, graduates from the Indian Institutes of Management, Xavier's Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), S P Jain Institute of Management and Research, Faculty of Management Services, Delhi; National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE); and the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad will join the company's operation teams at its facilities in Delhi and Pune.
Founded in 1999 and backed by investment firms Warburg Pincus and WestRiver Capital, vCustomer handles over 3.5 million calls a month, making it one of the largest voice contact support services firm in India.
Recently, it opened a 1,000-seater call centre in Pune. vCustomer has 3,000-seats on offer, 2,000 being in New Delhi where its other three call centres are located.
vCustomer which claims that the move to hire management graduates from top B-schools is an industry first, hopes to leverage the managerial talent to maintain quality standards while the firm continues to expand at a rapid pace.
With the headcount projected to nearly double by end of the year, the B-school graduates are expected to add to the middle management depth necessary to ensure smooth growth in the coming quarters.
