Oracle Corporation will recruit 250 people in India every month and is to increase its penetration in the sub-continent even as the enterprise software major is scouting for acquisitions in India to enhance its product portfolio.

"We will be adding around 250 people in the country every month as we have high expectation on revenues, with five to 15 per cent growth in licensing revenues itself," said Oracle Corp President Charles E Phillip, Jr., who is on his first visit to the country, told reporters in Mumbai on Thursday.

At present, the global software major has around 6,000 people on its rolls in the country and the addition would help improve the penetration, he said.

The company would also invest in the country, in a bid to "accelerate its growth", especially in applications server space and support operations, he said.

However, a major consideration would be to consolidate its backoffice functions in the country, Phillips said adding, information architecture and grid computing would be the main thrust areas.

Later, mirroring Oracle chief Larry Ellision's comments that the company is on a prowl for further acquisitions, Phillips said, "There are a lot of interesting companies in India and China, which can enhance our product portfolio."

However, he declined to comment on potential companies that could be acquired in these two countries. -- PTI
